ARGO
Directed by:
Ben Affleck
Argo is a historical movie which is adapted
from true story about the Argo Mission.
It tells about the captivity of workers in the USA Embassy due the
height of the 1979 hostage crisis which
has arisen between USA and Iran. The Iranians attack the USA Embassy and take
control of it. All the embassy personnel there get panic and confuse of course.
They already know that it will happen, so they have prepared for the worst.
They have been shredding all the documents which might expose some of important
stuffs about their country. They also shred all the personnel identities in
order the Iranians will not know who they are. 6 out of them do not want to be
hostages. They decide to escape from the exit door. They hide in the house of
Canadian diplomat. Meanwhile in USA, the CIA get panic to know this news
because they know the Iranian revolution army will do some cruel things to
their people. They also do not know what to do, but then the CIA knows that 6
of them escaped successfully and shelter in the Canadian diplomat’s house.
Their main focus now is to figure out the best way to take them out of Iran.
Tony Mendez, one of the CIA agents, finds the best of the bad ideas. He tells
about the Argo Mission. Argo is
actually a play which written by Lester Siegel, Tony intend to make a fake-movie-production. He gets inspired
while watching The Battle of Apes. He
says that that fake production takes scene in Iran, it will be the reason for
him to get into Iran and take the 6 Americans there. To make the movie seems
real, they make publication about it, just like any other upcoming films. This
plan runs smoothly. The day when he goes to Iran finally comes. He has been
equipped by so many preparations, such as, fake identity, 6 fake yellow slips,
etc. The operation begins, he starts it very well. He passes through all the security checks and
gets permission to make movie there. He finally makes it through the house of
Canadian diplomat. When he arrives, he directly tells the plan to take them out
of there. They don’t trust Tony right away, they scare to be hanged or shot
just like any other unlucky Americans before. To shorten it, after so many
directions given by Tony to those 6 Americans, they decide to do this
completely-suicide-mission. Although at almost last minute, the head of CIA
canceled this mission, Tony firms up his intention to take them out because he
thinks that he is the one who is responsible for them. When they arrive at the
airport, the thrilling moments happen. At the first procedural checking, they
all pass. But at the second one which is the yellow slip-checking, there is a
little bit problem because the officers get suspicious toward them, but at the
end they still pass through it. On the last and most frustrated checking, they
are not passed by the Iranian revolution armies directly. All of them are taken
to a room to be asked some intense questions. Luckily one of them speaks Parsi
so he can answer their questions. One of the army does the final check by
calling the fake-production house telephone number. At the last minute, John
Chambers picks up the phone and answer the tricky question smoothly. Finally,
the 7 of American yet masquerade as Canadians pass through the final checking
and enter to the plane. At the very last minutes, the Iranian armies know that
they are actually the 6 missing American whom they look for. They chase the
plane but unfortunately they are too late, the 7 Americans have successfully
escaped from Iran to their country, USA. When they arrive there, the government
of USA is forever thankful to the Canadian Embassy which already helped them
through this mission. For Tony Mandez, he is awarded an Intelligence star.
Now let me give some opinions about
this movie. First of all, Ben Affleck is so awesome indeed. He is the main factor why this movie is so
wondrous. Besides that, the script is well-made I think. It has its tense
scenes on the right places. The viewers always feel their adrenaline rush in,
particularly in some scenes where Tony and other 6 embassy personnel have to
deal with the Iranians. Indeed it is a historical movie, but it doesn’t make me
as viewer feel bored at all because the movie runs very smoothly. Then I do not
know it is just me or not, but I am really curious to know this story according
to the Iranian. This movie (of course) taken from the American point of view
only, this is why we feel sorry to them. We feel sorry to see they got shot or
hanged or captivated brutally. Furthermore, I curse the Iranians revolution
armies for what they have done toward the Americans. Since I am totally blind
about this history, I just can understand this movie from one perspective. But
thanks that blindness, I want to know more about this history. The last, through
some quests, no wonder why I feel so astonished after watching this movie. This
movie has won best picture, best adapted screenplay, best film editing, movie
of the year, best film, best director, best picture, best motion picture-drama,
special achievement in film making, etc in many award nominations. From those
tremendous achievements, I can tell you that this movie is worth to be saluted.
